The tour was well organized. Itenary was well planned. The guides were helpful. We would like to specially thank Sophie, our guide in Paris. She was very helpful made sure that every person was cared for, despite having about 50 people in her group. Hotels were good. Overall we would definately recommend this trip.
I spent a lot of time with this comment so I hope it gets your attention and helps to make a difference. This was my 7th bus tour in Europe, the previous four were with Globus. There were several things that were lacking. I understand that the hop-on-off style of tour has advantages but perhaps its disadvantages compared to other tours can be lessened. In short: 1- I was not aware this was a hop-on-off model of tour. Had I known I would have been better prepared for the lack of in-person contact between arrival and boarding the bus. Also the lack of care continued: in Paris we had arrived in the lobby at the meeting time only find it empty. We had to walk around the block checking on 4 other busses before finding ours. We had thought we had been left behind. We stayed Sunday and Monday night at the Mercure Port de Orleans and found it really hard to find food. Both nights the hotels restaurant was closed as were ones close by. Google search only showed a subset of actual restaurants i.e. maybe only English ones. Some folks went without supper. That kind of thing should be addressed by guides, like giving us options. We wandered around and found food about 700m away around two corners. 2- The quality of tour guides needs to improve. Our first exposure was a tour guide who was openly upset when one pair of passengers brought luggage to the bus when not told to. I overheard another guide muttering come on people show some energy while making a 2 km walk back to the bus in Bruges I think. 3- There were more cancellations than expected. I understand that minimum numbers are needed, but almost every optional tour was cancelled. This is rare among our experience with Globus. 4- The Bruges tour was underwhelming. It would have been nice to have had a better city tour or walking tour. We had almost no discussion of the beautiful buildings and plazas we passed as we walked into the centre. 5- Entries to sites not included in the tour were mismanaged. Most people on the bus were unaware that the Louvre and Versailles tickers sell out days in advance. We missed entry to both. Other tourists we had met who were moved to another bus got to Versailles after the gardens 9am free entrance time and had to pay for entry or sit out front for two hours until the scheduled departure. 5- We missed the comradery created when a large group travels together for a week. The guide learns everyones name, we learn a lot about others. On this tour we had a new guide every two days and the mix of guests changed. 6- Being left at the Louvre to end the tour was unexpected by us and other guests. We were warned the day before to expect that but others on the bus didnt hear it. The guests were mostly older people, 50- and 60-year olds, and from talking to them some didnt have a lot of extra money. So they had to chose between using unfamiliar technology like Uber, or Google navigation using public transit or spending a lot of money for a taxi. It was only my second time using Uber ever, and Im a retired IT consultant. On the positive side, the hotels were good and near good transit, the itinerary fit better than other options, the activity level worked for us and most others on the bus, My comparison is mainly to Globus tour guides, the best of which we had on our Portugal-Spain trip last year after a long COVID hiatus. - At a welcome dinner, this guide gave advice like: Things are never perfect with tours. There is always a person in every group who complains about small things. If you listen to them you may find yourself becoming negative about it and other things too. So to have your best tour, please ignore these petty complaints. That advice was brilliant because it was really a message to the complainers that people wont be listening to them. It changed the tour for the better. - The welcome dinner had the advantage that people paid attention better, unlike the poor speakers on a noisy bus where some guests are talking or reading their phones. The guide could cover a large range of things, like ordering tickets then, and eliminating surprises like being left at the Louvre. It also allowed guests to introduce themselves so you can more easily see who you might be compatible with. Finding a way to provide the same benefits with hop-on-off would be helpful.
Tour was very organized
It was a memorable experience especially cos ive never used a tour guide in any of my travels. I particularly enjoyed meeting new people and not having to source an itinerary myself for the locations we visited. The hotels offered were also pleasant and Im looking forward to the next trip with Europamundo
