Bilbao- Portugalete- Guernica- San Sebastián.-
Total distance covered: 200 km.
Scenery: industrial cities with very beautiful, green and mountainous landscapes. Houses with traditional architecture, farmhouses, in the mountains.
Today we will visit Portugalete, the Vizcaya Bridge (admission included), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and famous for being the world´s first ferry bridge for pedestrians and vehicles. We visit Bilbao and its estuary, where the Guggenheim Museum stands out with its striking exterior architecture, the old town, the old medieval center with its streets full of life, its cathedral. Free time for a walk and lunch. We recommend La Ribera Market for lunch, which offers stalls with typical Basque cuisine in a boat-like structure, located in front of the river.
14:30 hrs. - Bilbao, departure. After lunch time we continue our day.
15:15 hrs. - Guernica, arrival and time for a walk in this town, birthplace of the Basque people, but sadly known for being the place, where one of the worst massacres of the Spanish Civil War, remembered in the painting by Pablo Picasso, took place. Here is the Tree of Guernika, under whose branches the Basque Country was granted autonomy in the Middle Ages.
16:45 hrs. - Guernica. We continue our route amidst mountains.
18:15 hrs. - Hondarribia (Fuenterrabia), we make a stop in one of the most beautiful towns in the Basque Country, with its beaches, its walls, its maritime atmosphere and its historic center, where the grid layout of its narrow, cobbled streets may only surprise us. Time for a walk in the historic center.
20.45 hrs. - Hondarribia, departure.
21:15 hrs. - San Sebastián / Donostia. Arrival in the evening to the elegant capital of Guipuzcoa. Our hotel is usually located at the top of Mount Igueldo, from where you can see one of the most beautiful views of this elegant illuminated city.
San Sebastián - Burdeaux.-
Total distance covered: 240 km.
Scenery: green and wooded areas in the Basque Country. Plain of pine forests in the Landes region of France. Vineyards arriving in Bordeaux.
In the morning, after admiring the views over the bay of San Sebastian from Mount Igueldo, we´ll head to the Miramar Palace and its beautiful gardens. Free time afterwards to enjoy its large beach, stroll along its boulevards and have lunch in the "Old Town" famous for its lively pintxos bars and its vibrant atmosphere, a popular destination for food lovers. Each establishment has its own speciality and style, making exploring and trying different pintxos an exciting and delicious experience.
16:15 hrs. - San Sebastián. Departure, the passage to France. After crossing the French part of Basque Country, we enter the Landes region with pine forests and lakes. The vineyards of the Bordeaux wine region await us as we approach our destination.
19:15 hrs. - Bordeaux - Arrival. Our guide will give you a brief orientation of the city of Bordeaux. Free time, we suggest taking a walk through the city center.
Bordeaux - Lourdes
Total distance covered: 270 km.
Scenery: Picturesque vineyard landscapes.
Take time to savor the center of Bordeaux, which has been recognized as a World Heritage Site. You´ll marvel at the "Water Mirror" and stroll through the old town with its pedestrian streets and 11th-century cathedral. Admission to the Cité du Vin is included (with audio tour in English, Spanish or French), offering an immersive experience into the region´s wine history and production, complete with a wine tasting at the viewpoint overlooking Bordeaux. Later, you´ll have free time to stroll and enjoy lunch along the banks of the Garonne River, a charming area filled with small restaurants.
02:30 p.m. Departure from Bordeaux. We will continue our journey towards the Pyrenees.
06:00 p.m. - Arrival in Lourdes. Time to visit the Sanctuary. We recommend attending the candlelight procession, typically held at 9 p.m. from late March to late October. Dinner included.
Lourdes- Carcassonne- Narbonne- Marseille.-
Total distance: 580 km.
Landscapes: Pyrenees Mountain range and arrival in Mediterranean landscapes.
08:00 hrs. –Lourdes –departure – We travel to the south of France. Passage through the metropolis of Toulouse.11:30 hrs. – Carcassonne – Arrival at “la cite”, the medieval walled city. Time for lunch and get to know this beautiful town famous for its medieval walls, its impressive castle and the picturesque historic neighborhood "La Cité".
14:00 hrs.– Carcassonne – departure.
15:00 hrs. - Narbonne - a time to walk through this historic Occitan city with a picturesque historic center, where its great cathedral of Saints Justo and Pastor stands out and where we can still see, in the large central square, the "via domitia", built by the Romans to unite Italy with Hispania.
16:00 hrs. – Narbonne - departure. We continue along the coast towards the Côte d´Azur.
19.15 hrs- Marseille - arrival to the second city of France, located on the Côte d´Azur. We recommend you to have a walk through its "Vieux Port" (old port) full of life and small restaurants.
Marseille- Aix en Provence- Avignon- Pont du Gard- Barcelona.-
Total distance covered: 572 km.
Scenery: landscapes of French Provence.
08:00 hrs. - Marseille, departure. Today we will visit Provence whose light and landscapes were a source of inspiration for the great impressionist painters.
08:45 hrs. - Aix en Provence. We will make a stop in the city, where the painter Paul Cezanne was born, time to explore its magnificent historic center with its small streets, fountains and picturesque squares.
10:30 hrs. - Aix en Provence, departure.
11:45 hrs. - Avignon. Free time for a walk and lunch in this walled city on the banks of the Rhône that was the seat of the Catholic popes, becoming the second Rome, until it was integrated into France in 1791. Its immense Palace of the Popes reveals its past to us.
14:00 hrs. - Avignon, departure.
14:30 hrs. - Pont du Gard (entrada incluida).
We will make a stop at this impressive UNESCO World Heritage Roman aqueduct, one of the most famous and best-preserved Roman monuments in the world.
16:00 hrs. - Pont du Gard, departure. We continue our route to Catalonia.
21:15hrs. - Barcelona, arrival in the evening.
Barcelona
09:00 a.m. – We’ll begin with a panoramic city tour led by our guide or a local expert in Barcelona, also known as the "City of Counts." This great European city is renowned for Gaudí’s influence and its stunning modernist architecture. We’ll see the Columbus Monument, Plaza de Cataluña, Paseo de Gracia, Diagonal, Sagrada Familia, Montjuïc with its Olympic facilities, and Plaza de España. We’ll make a stop in Sagrada Familia to admire the exterior of the monument. The tour will end in La Rambla, where you can stroll through the historic Gothic Quarter. After the city tour, our guide will offer an optional visit to Gaudí´s masterpiece and symbol of the city: Sagrada Familia. The afternoon will be free for you to explore at your leisure.
06:30 p.m. - In the evening, we’ll include a transfer to Maremagnum, a modern entertainment and dining center by the sea, near Plaza de Colón. You can explore this lively area and enjoy dinner.
08:30 p.m. - Return to the hotel.
Barcelona - Peniscola - Valencia - Madrid
Total distance covered: 725 km.
Scenery: We’ll follow the Levantine coast, traveling between the Mediterranean Sea and landscapes dotted with orchards, citrus groves, and rice fields, before arriving in Valencia. The journey also takes us through the arid lands of the peninsular interior.
08:00 a.m. - Departure from Barcelona. We’ll travel to the Valencian Community along the Levantine coast.
10:45 a.m. - Peniscola. Dominating the sea with its imposing walls, this historic center, with its steep streets, white houses, and medieval castle, tells tales of popes and pirates. Peniscola is one of the most beautiful villages on the Spanish Mediterranean. You’ll have time for a walk.
12:30 p.m. - Departure from Peniscola.
02:30 p.m. - Valencia. Free time in the center for lunch. We suggest visiting the Lonja and the Cathedral. Why not try an authentic Valencian paella?
04:30 p.m. - Departure from Valencia. After passing through the avant-garde City of Arts and Sciences, we’ll continue towards Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid.
09:00 p.m. - Madrid.
Note: In some cases, the journey from Valencia to Madrid might be carried out by train.
After breakfast, our journey will come to an end, leaving you with wonderful lasting memories.
Note: Please be aware that the hotel check-out time is usually 10:00 a.m. You can leave your luggage in reception upon check-out, allowing you to explore the city without carrying your bags. You can retrieve your luggage at your convenience later in the day. If you require additional time to use your room, we recommend booking an extra night at the end of your tour.
