Welcome to your C. de Viajes Europamundo tour! Departure from Florence towards the heart of Tuscany. First stop in San Gimignano, the “town of towers”, one of the most iconic medieval villages in Italy. Time to stroll through its cobbled streets, enjoy an artisanal gelato or climb one of its towers for views over the Val d’Elsa. We continue to Volterra, an Etruscan jewel set on a hill, where archaeology, art and alabaster coexist in perfect harmony. After free time for lunch, we continue to Massa Marittima, one of Tuscany’s best-kept secrets, with its impressive Romanesque cathedral and medieval streets. During the walk through Massa Marittima, we recommend stopping at the Fonte dell’ Abbondanza, an ancient medieval fountain that preserves one of the most unusual and provocative frescoes of Gothic art: the Tree of Fertility, painted in the 13th century. A curious and symbolic stop, ideal for those who enjoy discovering the secrets of the past. We will enjoy a wine tasting at Terrazza Moris, sampling Tuscan wines accompanied by cold cuts, cheeses and local olive oil, all with views over the hills of the Maremma. The day ends in Castiglione della Pescaia, a beautiful seaside town overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. In the afternoon, we suggest a walk up to the medieval castle, with panoramic views over the sea and the old town. Overnight in Castiglione della Pescaia or nearby. (*Important note: during the winter months access to the castle of Castiglione della Pescaia is closed, although the viewpoints remain accessible). (**Important note: wine tasting in Massa Marittima is not available on Sundays as the establishment is closed. Winter opening hours are limited).

Today we head towards the mystical region of the Tuscan Maremma. First stop in Manciano, followed by spectacular Pitigliano, known as the “hanging village”, where houses seem to merge with the volcanic tuff cliffs. We include a visit and tasting of local white wine and typical products of the Maremma region. After the visit, we stop in Sorano, a medieval gem carved into the rock, with free time for lunch at your leisure and to stroll through its charming streets. In the afternoon, we continue to the Radicofani Fortress, which dominates the landscapes of the Val d´Orcia with its imposing volcanic stone silhouette. Arrival in Pienza, a Renaissance gem declared a World Heritage Site, known for its perfect urban layout and its delicious pecorino cheese. Overnight in Pienza or nearby. Dinner at leisure. (*Important note: the winery in Pitigliano is closed on Sundays. If this coincides with the itinerary, an alternative will be arranged). (**Important note: Radicofani Fortress is usually closed during December and January. Entrance is subject to availability during this period).

Our final day begins heading towards Cortona, a hilltop town with magnificent views over the valley. Famous for its serene charm and immortalized in the film Under the Tuscan Sun, it invites visitors to stroll through its streets at a relaxed pace. We then continue to Arezzo, where we visit the Basilica of San Francesco, home to the famous fresco cycle The Legend of the True Cross by Piero della Francesca. We then visit the Roman amphitheatre, one of the best-preserved archaeological structures in the city. In the monumental Piazza Grande, we recommend enjoying lunch in one of its well-known local trattorias. In the afternoon, we make a final stop in Siena, including a visit to the impressive Duomo, one of the most remarkable Gothic cathedrals in Italy, clad in white and dark green marble. Return to Florence at the end of the day. End of the trip.
